Hadleigh is a market town fairly close to Ipswich, but far enough away to have it’s own character and unique history. Up until the 17C Hadleigh was a cloth-making town in common with the rest of the area (Kersey, Lavenham, Long Melford). Consequently it was a wealthy town and it still contains some lovely old timber framed houses with pargetting. However as the cloth industry declined so did Hadleigh and it wasn’t until the age of the train that the town really prospered again. At that time some of the older properties which had been neglected for centuries were re-fronted in Victorian style, which gives Hadleigh the appearance of mixed architecture when in fact many buildings are medieval.

How sad must that flight have been for Gerry and Kate McCann returning home from Portugal without little Madeleine . Each one of us can relate to feeling sad when having to return from holiday but having to return under these circumstances where a family of five comes back as four has to be the most painful and heartbreaking happening in a person`s life one could ever endure.
Aside from losing their dearest little Madeleine - Gerry and Kate McCann now stand accused of accidentally killing their daughter over four months later. We moved to Florida when I was only 5, many, many years ago, before it became wall to wall houses, condos and shopping centers. But, about the seashells, moving there from Pennsylvania, the beach appeared to be a wondrous thing, and my parents took us there at least once a week, normally more often that that. At first we would take a few seashells home, but they were in such abundance that eventually we just walked by them, or picked them up, admired them and put them down. During the winter months, you would see tourists, who really knew nothing about seashells, combing the beaches for their bag of shells to take home to the frozen north, so they could remember their sunny vacation in Florida. Looking back all those years, I wish I had spent a few minutes each time we went to the beach to find only 1 or 2 of the best shells to save, but I didn’t.
